Charities

All our performances raise money for charities.

RISE UK was Women of Note’s chosen charity of the year for 2019. RISE is an independent, Brighton-based charity helping people affected by domestic abuse, offering practical help ranging from direct advice to refuge accommodation for those whose lives are at risk.

RISE stands for Refuge, Information, Support and Education. Their vision is freedom from abuse and violence. You can read about the charity and the important work they do at: https://www.riseuk.org.uk

Charities supported in previous years:

Women of Note raised over £1000 for Sussex Nightstop in concerts and performances between September 2017 and December 2018.

Sussex Nightstop is a local charity that provides a safety net for young people age 16-25 who are at risk of homelessness, providing emergency accommodation in the homes of volunteers. You can read more about Sussex Nightstop at: http://www.sussexnightstop.org.uk

In 2016 Women of Note raised £400 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society in loving memory of our friend and tireless supporter Chris Rice.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological condition which affects around 100,000 people in the UK. Most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20-40, but it can affect younger and older people too. Roughly three times as many women have MS as men. The MS Society is the UK’s leading MS charity who’ve been providing information and support, funding research and fighting for change since 1953. See their website at: https://www.mssociety.org.uk/

For 2015 our chosen charity was the Grace Eyre Foundation for whom we raised over £1,000. Based in Brighton, this charity works across Brighton & Hove and East & West Sussex supporting adults with learning difficulties, helping people achieve their dreams, and is one of the oldest charities in Sussex.
